Continuing the story from the previous issue, earth is stuck in the middle of a war between two alien races, the Betans and the Megans. The Megans want to rob earth of its natural resources and also use it as a staging base for their attacks on Beta, so they send three Mega-Monsters to lay waste to earth. The Betans are hoping Godzilla and his giant robot pal Red Ronin can stop the Mega-Monsters.
Some Megans are also en route to earth on their space ship, with plans to deploy their Energex-Ray when they get close. The Betans know this because the Megans are broadcasting their plans on what is apparently an unsecure radio channel. Which is just bad OPSEC. You’d think an advanced alien race with giant monsters under their command would know better.
What’s an Energex-Ray? It’s some kind of energy beam that will supercharge the already formidable Mega-Monsters. So if the Energex-Ray gets deployed, that’d be bad news for Godzilla and Red Ronin.
This big monster (and robot) brawl is happening in Salt Lake City. The National Guard plus a couple of SHIELD guys show up, but they aren’t much help.
The story ends on a terrific cliffhanger. First, the Red Ronin robot gets beheaded! Oh no! Then the Betans destroy the Megan space ship, but not before the Megans fire their Energex-Ray, which makes the already gigantic Mega-Monsters even bigger. Oh no! According to the teaser at the very end of the story, the title of the next issue is “The (Super) Mega-Monsters!”
Heck. Yeah.
